A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

THE STORY

Warm lighting invites you into a loving home filled with memories.
with memories.

Elegant mirrors reflect the lives of the amazing couple who live here and their loved ones.

Walls are a backdrop for nostalgic artifacts collected during travels. Rare pieces of antique pottery and bells are a perfect counterpart for the modern aesthetics of the home.

A collage of family pictures is the first thing my clients see when they come downstairs in the morning, a perfect way to keep loved ones close to their hearts. Banana leaves harken back to the couple’s homeland while bringing lush beauty to the hallway.

The hallway leads one to the living room that is envisioned as a mesh of modern and traditional design, bringing two different times and cultures together.

Intricately carved wood furniture and welcoming green armchairs add depth and color to a simple black and white aesthetic. Plants that adorn the mantlepiece are reflected in the antique mirror and add another alluring layer of green.

What’s more satisfying than curling up with a good book in a big cozy chair next to the fireplace?

The home office is a bibliophile’s dream come true! Custom floor-to-ceiling floating bookshelves have in-built metal bookends that rise seamlessly from the white oak shelves.

The window seat has high-quality upholstered seating and comfy pillows for hours of reading bliss, with tons of storage below for even more books!

A custom white oak sit/stand desk is flanked by a discrete printer cabinet. Art on the walls reminds the client to take frequent forays out into nature.

The cozy seating area is perfect for a small informal meeting. Furniture and lighting with a Scandinavian vibe perfectly complement the minimal design of the light wood elements in the rest of the room.

THE EXPERIENCE

I came to design the entry experience for this home. Over the course of the project, we had such a good time and became such good friends that I stayed to design the living and dining rooms and home office also!

While the hallway and living room have become vessels of fond memories for my dear friend, the peaceful home office has become a temple for her husband.

Designing the floating bookshelves as a seamless jigsaw puzzle of wood and metal was an interesting challenge.

I am thankful that I got to collaborate with an amazing local woodworking contractor and metal fabricator who were able to bring my design to fruition with impeccable craftsmanship.
